Day 9

Task: Pet Peeves

Honey...

Gold tooth. Why human beings choose to carry their investments in their mouth is beyond my understanding.

Guys who willingly enter the friendzone then hit you with the "I never planned to have feelings for you,it just happened". There's a reason why you in the friendzone. Friendzone=not eligible to date.

Doing my hair, or anything to do with hair. I do not find any enjoyment in such activities. I do ,however ,acknowledge that as a female it is wise that u keep your hair fairly decent.

People who are impatient when having a conversation with people who stutter. Or even worse imitate the way they speak. It's not the person's fault that he\she stutters, you know. If he\she had it their way they too would probably not stutter.

Sifiso...

Smoking... The smell, the smoke! Aaaaaaaaargh! But I love to chill with smokers *shrugs* But the smoking vibe is just not for me, especially the aftermath, the stains and that hideous smell... Nothing more irritating than smelling like smoke after a night out and you were not even near a smoker.
I can only imagine what weaves go through.

Incorrect answers... I'll elaborate on this one. Nothing wrong with getting answers wrong, but it annoys me when the respondent* does not answer the question they've been asked. This is mostly commonly done by asking themselves another question that is perpendicular to the topic (that is on a topic that they are more comfortable with) and then giving a long-winded answer to deter any attempt to get them to attempting to answer the original question.

*side note* I'm only using respondent because answerer doesn't seem like the right word)

Me...

I hate it when people chew with their mouths open

Please could we also refrain from chewing gum like cows chewing on grass? Why do people insist on being heard that they are chewing gum?

Cannot stand it when people fight with their plates, why must utensils be used to beat up crockery?

This one is directed to microwaves; please start with the food and end with the plate/bowl?

Can't stand any form unhygienic activity, a bath/shower once a day won't hurt, if all else fails, take a swim

I can't tolerate people who talk longer than necessary, two ears, one mouth, please let us utilise as per ratio?

Greeting on BBM? Please don't, just get straight to the point, I'm fine, you're fine, now let's chat already!

People who do not use "please" and "thank you", that's plain rude

Ashy lips, hands, feet & just skin in general

Lastly, I really get peeved when people decided to ruin the mood for everyone just because they are in a bad mood. It's just not fair on everyone else

Day 8

Task: Three things you want to say to different people

Sifiso...

Wow, this a tough one, considering that the day is nearly over. I cannot sign a release form for this to be on the blog.

1. Friends (The gents)

Thank you guys for being incredibly awesome. I may not be the best friend you have, but thanks for showing me love anyway. I'm so grateful you guys are too lazy to make new friends. Love you gents. I owe a lot of who I am and have I think to you guys. Love you gents #NoHomo Nothing could express the amount of gratitude I have for you guys being in my life. I hope we can get even closer over the years to come!

2. Family

I wish we could have family time all the time, not just on special occasions. You guys really brighten up my life in a very special and different way from the friends I love so much.

3. Those I've hurt or hindered in some way

I'm sorry. If I could do things over, I would make different/better decisions. Please forgive me - not for my sake, but for your own sake. If we can work things out, I'd appreciate that, but you're not obliged to do so because I was the perpetrator. I have no reason for some of the stuff I've done other than immaturity and intoxication. I pray for your success and the release of your potential, with or without me.

I've addressed this to groups of people rather than individuals. Not 100% sure if that's allowed.

This has been the most interesting task on the journey thus far.

Me...

My Parents
1. Thank you...
...for sacrificing all you had so I could have all I have now
...for teaching me the importance of hard work
...for not always giving me what I wanted exactly when I wanted it

My boyfriend
2. Thank you...
...for being my support system
...for reminding me that it's ok to make mistakes
...for being my hype man
...for inspiring me to be a better person

Khanyi Dhlomo
3. I want to meet you...
...so we can talk about how awesome you are and everything else in between and out of context

Honey...

1. My headmaster in High School,Mr Landman.
I want to sit down and tell him he was right. That life does get harder as you grow up, that character really is build by tribulations. That all the skinny boys in our class did eventually become fat(just as he said they would) because of lack of exercise and too much alcohol.

2. My late brother Tshepo
I wanna ask him if heaven is as we imagine it to be. I want to thank him for all the lessons his presence in my life taught me.

3.Steven Bantu Biko
The pioneer of BCM(black Conscious Movement). I owe a huge chunk of who I am and how I view the world to Black Consciousness. Even in this day and age when it's no longer fashionable. I'd take Biko out to a quite spot for lunch and listen attentively as I 21-question-him till the sun goes down.

Day 7

Task: Do you read? What are your favourite books?

Honey...

My all time favourite book is Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers

I'm actually embarrassed to admit that my favourite book reads more like a romance novel and not an autobiography of some struggle hero.

Redeeming love helped me to comprehend the depth of God's love and the beauty of second chances.

It's a book I pray my granddaughters and great granddaughters will get to read.
It had me cancelling nights out and bunking lectures.
I salute Francine, her book will forever linger in my mind.

Me...

Yes. I read.
My favourite books in no particular order (except the first one which is actually my favourite book of all time):

1. The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho - this book taught me about life in it's entirety, and it's not even a self help book (which I stay away from). Also, I feel like the message portrayed is what The Secret dismally attempted

2. Shades by Marguerite Poland - this was our Grade 12 set work. I had read it two years prior when I found it lying around in my brother's bedroom. My cousin got me a copy again two years ago, I'm planning to read it again!

3. Spud by John van de Ruit - I have the entire series but the first one is still my favourite, I laughed and cried like a lunatic

4. No One Would Listen by Harry Markopolos - I know the description "financial thriller" wouldn't excite most, but my, I LOVED this book, especially since I had been following Bernard Madoff's trial

5. Oliver Tambo, Beyond the Engeli Mountains by Luli Callinicos - I love Oliver Tambo, and this biography is so beautifully written, so eloquent so captive, I feel like all South Africans should read it

6. Some of my Best Friends are White by Ndumiso Ngcobo- we live in such a diverse country, sometimes it's just nice to laugh at what makes us South African

7.Ukuthanda ilanga (Loving the Sun) by Penuel Mlotshwa. Last time I saw Penuel was probably four years ago, what I never got to tell him is that he inspired me to start working on my own book. This book is self published and I have no idea how one can get a hold of it, but it's a delightful, light-hearted quick read

8. The Pursuit of Happyness by Chris Gardner - I thought the movie was really really good, till I read the book. WOW! Love!

Phew! Looks like I have more favourite books than I thought!

Sifiso...

Yes I do read

Favourite books are non-fiction works. Fiction seems to be more about conflict and non-fiction about conflict resolution. I love answers. Couldn't read the Bible until I could fit it into the non-fiction category.

I'm a sucker for books about wisdom, insight into human beings and the application of the gospel.

One of my favourite authors is Dr. Myles Munroe because his works are often a combination of the above (everything is about Genesis 1-3).I also enjoy Patrick Lencioni for the way he uses fiction to present wisdom, principles and their application and then feeds you the raw principles.

David Brooks is a man after my own mind. Has a similar style to Lencioni, so they allow me to stray into fiction without losing out on the substance. Brooks also uses some very classic and unique images to bring the story across.

Day 6

Task: What band or musician is most important to you?

It seems Honey has defaulted on Day 6 so it is just Sifiso and I today...

Sifiso...

Johann Sebastian Bach

Now the baroque era is a very early, but critical era in music. From baroque we find music impacting the mind, body and soul. We find things like musical imagery, themes and motifs! I would love to elaborate on those, but this is not the time for history and appreciation of music lecture.

Of the composers of the era, I have the deepest connection with Bach. I have not studied much of his personal life, but I get his music.

The reason I've gone with such an old musician is because I'm a purist and believe that he made important reforms that are at the heart of what we listen to nowadays.

Me...

I had to think long and hard about this one. I have a lot of favourites but "important" is another thing. Looking at my CD collection I decided, Joyous Celebration must be important to me seeing I have a collection of their music.

I guess their music somehow takes me to church, and sometimes all you need is just a little church:)

Thursday, July 26, 2012

Day 5

Task: Five places you want to visit

Honey...

1.Zanzibar
2.Mozambique
3.Kenya
4.New york
5.London

Sifiso...

In no particular order

- God's window, Mpumalanga - I've heard it's absolutely stunning. Plus it helps me show that I dig God and I dig my country.

- Aya Napa - Party island off the coast of Cyprus. Not as commercial as Ibiza, but I wanna see how extreme people go when they party

- Dubai - Muslim place. Really interested in how they live and I guess a little shopping wouldn't hurt.

- New York - Do I need a reason? Time Square, the sock exchange. The Rainbow Room. It's all happening there.

- Hemingway Bar at the Ritz in Paris is supposed to feature, but it shut down recently, so my substitute will have to be Mozambique. I have not done Mozambique although I've threatened to for years.

Me...

1. I wanna be a part of it, New York New York!!!

2. Paris [going to learn French just for this trip]

3. Dubai, not for the shopping but for the shopping

4. Mauritius, planning this to be my next international trip:)

5. Italy, Venice in particular. I want to go on those fancy boats of theirs and just keep myself busy by looking cool

Day 4

Task: The meaning behind your tumblr name

Me...

My friend Nandipha and I started a tumblr page not so long ago. Before that we were co-bloggers on "blogspot". Both our blogspot and tumblr names is "September 34". I came up with the name after being unimpressed with Nandipha's weak suggestions *BBM uninterested face*.

Initially we were going to go by the name "Cape Town to Joburg" [yawn] because I'm based in Cpt, and she in Jhb, but we decided against it as it would be slightly awkward once I move back to Jhb.

So, September 34 it was. We are born, one year and a day apart (yes, I'm the older one), so September 3 is the day of my birthday (every year) and September 4 is Nandipha's...

Honey...

*no tumblr*
Bacc21 was one of my passwords
Short for getting my Bacc degree @ the age of 21.
Came up with it in first year.
now 6yrs later it reminds me of the saying; "Wanna make God laugh? Tell him about ur plans."
It also ,now, symbolizes how far I've come with this CA dream

Sifiso...

Quite an interesting task for today, seeing as I don't know what tumblr is, I can assume I don't have a tumblr name... Can't watch face.

I can explain what my Twitter name's about...

At school my computer user name was 04GMapS
04. - year I matriculate
G. - Gillingham - my boarding house
Map - 1st 3 letters of my surname
S - I usually get called names including S (like S-hole)

So for Twitter, since I won't be graduating, I chose my year of birth. I've always prided myself on my youth.

My BBM name, very simple. Khutso started this thing of calling me Smooth Criminal, which was later shortened to Smooth. Those were my original BBM names. O Suave is a combination of Irish and Portugese musings. O Suave in portugese means "the smooth one". Very suave and befitting. O'Suave is just a play on your typical Irish surname (eg O'Driscoll; O'Sullivan). Was actually supposed to embrace Scotland at some stage and change it to McSuave.

I like to juxtapose things that don't seemingly go together:) I love doing that to show that things are not as disconnected as we think, or that things are more connected than we originally perceive.

Hope I've done good

Day 3...

Task: Your day, in great detail

Sifiso...

Great detail differs from male to female

11:04 - Wake and check phone (for the time). Reply to BBM messages and an email (I really thought I replied to this email - it will feature again later in my day). Proceed to man cave for my day to commence.

11:51 - Not a big watcher of TV, but begin channel surfing. Tune into 2 and a Half Men. It's the right thing to do since I watched a Charlie Sheen interview on Jay Leno last night.

Mid-12 - Tune into CNBC for some market info. Check stock prices and look for any interesting headlines. Continue to watch junk. Think I watched the Mentalist.

Before 1 - Play Fifa 12, while enjoying some Weetbix. Yes, I deserve a badge for laziness.

Watch more tv throughout the day mainly House and White Collar. These shows are interrupted by random moments of finding new ways to through bottles in the air while making drinks and fine-tuning my repertoire for this weekends performance. Pieces to be debuted this weekend include Icebox (Omarion), So Sick (Ne-yo), We Fall Down (Donnie McClurkin) and Say Yes (Floetry). Trying to do a whole hip-hop/ R&B thing.

Randomly have 3 boiled eggs and then go take a bath.

Following the bath, I begin to study some accounting. Earnings per share. Find some inconsistency which makes no sense. Begin to dissect it and next thing PS3 is in my hands and time for more Fifa.

Steal a handful of mints from my dad's cupboard.

Attend to the email I thought I responded to this morning. My afternoon response is far more pleasant than what I would have sent this morning. Follow-up on some emails from yesterday.

17:53 - Hanging With Mr. Cooper, but toy with the idea of gym. I know I have time on my hands, so postpone.

18:04 - Realised I don't have mixed martial arts or capoeira class, so gym motivation depleted. Try to look for a motivational Arnold Schwarzenneger video, but end up flipping bottles in the air and working on my repertoire.

Eat samp and beans for supper while playing Fifa.

Ziyanda's mail comes in and I remember that I need to write the day down in detail. So I do this from my music area.

About to go take my anti-malaria tablet.

Me...

6:55 My alarm goes off, today I didn't hit the snooze button (usually reward myself with 5min of extra sleep) I jumped out of bed. News goes on and the weather forecast says maximum 22 degrees (yay, warm winters day) so I open my wardrobe, pull out salmon coloured chinos, crisp white shirt and a pair of nude heels. Then I jump into the shower.

6:45 I'm half dressed so I quickly blow dry my hair then comb it into place.

7:00 I turn on the TV to watch Espresso, usually I would watch Morning Live or CNBC Africa, but I thought let me try this show. Unimpressed I let it play in the background while I pack my laptop and cut myself an orange. I quickly nibble as I throw yoghurt and an apple into my bag.

7:20 I'm in the car and on my way to work and listen to Metro fm (this is standard procedure).

8:50 I'm at work, I walk in with my friend Lyle and we joke about (as usual). I pop into my boss's boss office to say hi then sit down, turn my laptop on. Lots of meeting today so try to get as much done before my first one.

10:30 My friend Risel who's based in our factory in JHB is down for a meeting and he came to greet me! Yay! We catch up for 5min then he's off and I get back to work.

11:00 My first meeting with my NPI (New Product Innovation) manager Karine, I'm project manager for something big happening to our brand and she helps me with details on production.

12:00 I run from my meeting with Karine to another meeting with ANOTHER NPI manager, plus 6 other functional experts for project number 2.
Everyone in the boardroom except for my manager/boss (Zonja) and I are smoking...I come out smelling like an ashtray:(

13:00 Meeting done so I head to the cafeteria. Today my friend Zayaan (who's on the same brand as me) and another friend, Faatima (who's just moved to a new team) are having a lunch date. While I wait for Zayaan to get to the cafeteria I catch up with my buddies Steve, Lulu and Risel (together we are the awesome foursome cause we're awesome).

13:10 Zay (Zayaan) comes down, we get lunch and go up to Faati's (Faatima) new department for our lunch date. We get there to find three others. Dig in laugh, relax (a bit).

13:30 Zay and I drag (I mean run enthusiastically) ourselves to our desks and it's back to work. I prepare for my next meeting. I'm nervous cause I'll be presenting.

15:00 Last meeting for the day!! Am I ready? No I'm not! Into Mark's office (boss's boss) and we wait for Zonja. I present and when I'm done they fire questions and I tackle each one with ease. This is my best work this year! An hour later we sit and they give me feedback and where I can improve. Mark throws figures and graphs, challenges me, he wants the answers tomorrow, it's a BIG challenge but I accept. I need to knock this one out of the park, I need to impress Mark tomorrow.

16:30 Meeting done and I get a call from Marthine she needs some designs to be signed off. Zonja is in a meeting and she does the sign offs so I tell her this. Five minutes later I get a call from Sylvia from Oglivy and she also needs something to be signed off, I put it aside for Zonja's To-Do list.

17:00 Zonja is finally back and she approves and signs off. Koos who's been helping me with forecasts for my projects comes and we speak some Afrikaans, he makes fun of my broken Afrikaans then quickly saves himself by joking about HIS broken English. He wants to know how the brand is performing so I quickly look up the figures, we discuss them then decide we shall continue tomorrow.

17:30 Pam, my pretty neighbour asks for a lift and we're off. On our way home this man driving behind me is hooting profusely I can't hear what his saying so as the robot turns red, he swerves his car in front of me, jumps out and tells me my back tyre is flat. We stop at a garage 2 minutes later and I get all my tyres sorted.

18:00 Pam and I stop at Woolies and we get some supper.

18:15 I warm my chicken lasagne, take it out of the microwave, dig in and then start typing this...

Honey...

06h30: Snoozed the alarm

08h05: Make it to my 8 o'clock lecture(that's early for me) probably cause Kamo dropped me off.

9h30: Try really hard not to doze off

10h00-13h00: Lectures, day dreaming about my romantic get away with my lover next weekend

13h30-16h00: Went for praise and worship @ church. Highlight of my day

16h00-17h00: Take a nap, and for some weird reason I dream about pop bottles. Very disturbing.

17h00-17h30: Go on Twitter, blogs, blogs and more blocks. Super excited about the new blog I discovered

18h00-what feels like forever: Study a new standard in accounting

The 30 Day Challenge...

Ok, it's on! I'm on a journey to self-discovery and my friends Honey and Sifiso are convoying along. My life in the past few weeks has been a big drag race through turmoil. But thanks to my support system (family, friends, boyfriend and most importantly, prayer) l'm still standing!

Will be updating you on our experiences through to Day 30.

*side note* found this on tumblr, have no idea who the originator is but, thank you for this fun excercise:)

London Town

These pics of my London trip are long overdue, so not much talking on this post, I’ll just leave that to the photos...

Victoria Station

Reagents Park

London Zoo

Taken from Millenium Bridge

Shakespeare Museum

St Paul's Cathedral
Taken from the top of St Paul's Cathedral, 500+ stairs later *wipes brow*

St Paul's Cathedral, now making my way down

Tower of London

Tower Bridge

Royal Albert Hall

When Big Ben was still Big Ben

Westminster Abbey

Guess who we bumped into??

Ok, this is just 10% of the pics, sadly I couldn't upoad all!
All in all, awesome is an understatement, this trip was beyond, but true to London weather, the sun was barely seen, and I had packed for summer so ended up not wearing 80% of my clothes. Speaking of which, yes I shopped but not enough:(

First of many more international trips cause I am blessed, yes!
